Buyer intelligence in the chat still needs a filter
Intent inside Claude is still not a who/why score.
On Sep 29, Informa TechTarget announced that its Buyer Intelligence product is available through an MCP server into Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, and custom AI systems. The Newton, MA press release says person-level intent and buyer insights can feed battlecards, account analysis, and outreach drafts without leaving the AI workflow. CEO Gary Nugent and CPTO Mark Picone both framed it as meeting teams where they already work. That distribution move is real. It does not retire the filter.
Intent in the chat is not a who/why score.
What did Informa TechTarget ship?
They shipped access. Same Buyer Intelligence data, new pipe into the chat tools GTM teams already open all day.
The Sep 29 release is explicit. MCP server. Person-level intent. Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, custom systems. Use cases listed: battlecards, account and market analysis, personalized outreach. Earlier in September they also shipped AI features inside Buyer Intelligence itself (Pain Points, Pitch Assist, Persona and ICP Intelligence). So you get two layers: smarter product features, plus MCP so the agent chat can pull the same feed. None of that writes your ICP for you.
Why is MCP access not enough?
Because the protocol is not the truth. MCP moves context. It does not certify that the contact is in market, that the account is warm for your offer, or that firmographic fit still holds.
Intent data can show research behavior. It can surface pain language. It can help an AE draft a sharper note. It cannot tell you whether this is a warm account or a warm contact. A company lighting up on a category topic is not the same as the economic buyer who will take the meeting. Paste intent into the chat without that distinction and the model will sound confident while you burn the wrong seat.
Same gap on fit. Firmographic fit vs buyer intent is still a two-axis call. High intent + bad fit is a demo that should never book. Low intent + perfect fit is a nurture problem, not a "the MCP failed" problem.
How should Signals use Buyer Intelligence in the chat?
Treat the MCP feed as one signal class. Score it. Do not worship it.
- Pull intent only for accounts that already pass fit. ICP first. Intent second.
- Separate account heat from contact heat. Category research at the company is not permission to email every title in the org chart.
- Cross-check with first-party signals. Website de-anon, competitor G2 category traffic, and people engaging competitor LinkedIn still matter. Vendor intent alone is a rented view.
- Force a human gate on first touch. The chat can draft. A person decides send when the stake is a real buyer relationship.
- Log the source. If the meeting came from TechTarget intent via MCP, write that down. If it came from your site visitor list, write that down. Otherwise you will credit the chat UI for work the signal did.
What will teams get wrong this week?
They will ask Claude to "build outreach for everyone researching X" and ship the draft list.
That is theater. The model will happily personalize spam. Your domain will pay the tax. The fix is boring: fit rules, warm-account definition, exclusion lists, and a send wall. MCP makes the data closer. Closer data with no filter is just a shorter path to the wrong send.
What should I do Monday?
Pick ten accounts that already match ICP. Pull Buyer Intelligence (or whatever intent you buy) into the chat for those ten only. For each account, write one line: warm account or not, and which contact is warm if any. Draft only where both lines are clear. Everything else stays out of the sequencer.
Adapt or fail. Intent in the workflow is a tool. Who and why still own the motion.
FAQ
What is Buyer Intelligence via MCP?
Informa TechTarget's Sep 29 announcement says its person-level intent and buyer insights are available through an MCP server so AI tools like Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, and Gemini can use them inside the chat workflow.
Does MCP replace my CRM or ABM stack?
No. The same release lists MAP, CRM, ABM, and data-cloud connections as other access paths. MCP is another door into the same intelligence, not a new system of record.
Is person-level intent the same as a warm contact?
No. Intent can show research behavior. A warm contact is someone with a reason and a path to a meeting. You still score who and why.
Should I let an agent send from intent in the chat?
Not on day one. Draft in the chat. Keep send behind your DQ rules and a human gate until the path fails safely on bad cases.
How does this fit with G2 and website signals?
Stack them. Fit first, then combine vendor intent, category traffic, and first-party site signals. One feed in the chat is not a full Signals graph.
