How to run Signals, Convert, Grow on a team of one
You do not need a GTM department to run the path.
You need order, a knife, and an operator for the repetitive work. Most solo founders reverse it. They buy Grow theater first. Ads. Agents. Dashboards. Then they wonder why the calendar is empty.
One person can run Signals → Convert → Grow if AI takes volume and you keep the knife. Salesforce's ~27% quota reality does not wait for a full GTM org chart.
What is the order on a team of one?
Signals, Convert, Grow is the path. Do not skip.
Signals: find who is in a buying window. Website de-anon, G2 category or competitor traffic, people engaging rival LinkedIn. Tools as examples: RB2B, Vector, Factors.ai, G2. Job change is a signal. It is not the whole motion.
Convert: earn the meeting. Desire under the purchase label. Grunt-test copy. Signal-matched first touch. Honest offer.
Grow: scale what already books meetings. More volume on rails that work. Not more channels with no knife.
Ehrenberg-Bass / LinkedIn B2B Institute: about 95% of ICP is out of market. A solo founder who sprays that 95% burns the week. Signals respect the window. Convert spends the scarce 5% carefully.
How does AI fit if I am the only human?
AI as operator, not as strategy.
Operator drafts lists, enriches, scores, personalizes volume, logs CRM notes, and flags kills. You own message, offer, disclosure, and the decision to stop a send.
See staff AI agents on a GTM roster. Roster the jobs. Do not buy seats and hope.
If this, then that. If the agent can send without a kill path, you built a spam machine. If you write every line by hand with no operator, you will not hit volume when a window opens.
What does a week look like?
Block the calendar by stage. Name the hat.
Monday Signals (2-3 hours): review ingress. Which accounts hit the site, G2, or competitor content? Enrich. Score windows. Drop junk.
Tuesday-Wednesday Convert (half days): rewrite the top note and homepage claim if the swap test fails. Send signal-matched first touches. Book and run meetings. Measure show rate, not vanity opens.
Thursday Grow (2 hours): only scale what booked. Clone the working note pattern. Raise volume on the same rails. Do not open a new channel because you are bored.
Friday measure: meetings from signal-matched sends. Kill what wasted domain reputation. Forrester's ~84-day cycle means you cannot wait a quarter to learn the note was generic.
Meetings, not theater is the scoreboard. One solo founder with 8 real meetings beats a "full funnel" deck with zero strangers on the calendar.
What should I refuse to do alone?
Refuse three traps.
- Content volume without Convert. 28k views, 4 visits, zero sales is the metronome. Do not chase that shape.
- Agent seats without rails. Enrichment, disclosure, kill-switch, CRM log. Or do not buy.
- Category theater before proof. Naming a fake category does not book a meeting.
Monday.com's CTR drop from 2.94% to 0.84% is a receipt: inbound got harder. Solo founders feel that first. Signals and Convert are how you adapt. Grow is how you multiply after.
How do I keep the knife human?
Write the claim yourself. Or edit until it sounds like you on a walk.
AI can draft ten variants. You pick the one with a receipt and a cut that cannot be waved off. You decide when a thread needs a human and you say so.
You also decide when to stop. Domain burn is a solo-founder death spiral. One bad week of spray can cost months of inbox trust.
What is the minimum stack?
Keep it boring.
CRM you actually open. One de-anon or intent source (RB2B, Vector, or G2 workflows). One enrichment path. One send tool with a kill switch. PostHog or product analytics if product-led signals matter. AI drafting inside that stack.
Do not invent a Product Marketer Pro analytics product. Do not collect seven agents before you have one meeting from a matched signal.
Would you rather a full org chart and empty weeks, or one person, clear order, and meetings on the board?
Adapt or fail. Run the path in order. Let AI take volume. Keep the knife.
FAQ
Can one person really cover all three stages?
Yes, in sequence each week. Not all at once in one hour. Block time by stage.
Should I hire before Grow?
Hire when meetings exceed what one human can run with an operator. Do not hire to fix missing positioning.
What if I only have time for one stage this week?
Do Signals and Convert. Skip Grow. Scaling a broken note is how you burn domains.
Where do AI SDR tools fit?
As operators on volume after rails exist. See the roster post. Human owns knife and kill path.
How do I know the system works?
Count meetings from signal-matched sends and show rate. Not MQLs. Not "AI resolutions."
